Southbridge group becomes “Principles of Responsible Investments” signatory

Kigali, Rwanda, 14 July 2020: SouthBridge Group (“SouthBridge” or “the Group”), a leading pan-African financial services firm offering solutions to the public and private clients across Africa, today announces it has become a signatory of the UN-sponsored Principles of Responsible Investments (PRI).

In becoming a signatory, SouthBridge commits to delivering services that incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles that ensure sustainability for our clients.

PRI is an initiative that was championed by the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan in 2005 and was launched on the New York Stock Exchange in 2006. Since then, it has grown to become an international network of investors who share a common goal of building a global financial system that is committed to sustainability. To date, the PRI has over 3,000 signatories across the globe and represents more than US$ 89 trillion in assets.

Andrew Alli, Group Chief Executive Officer of SouthBridge commented on the announcement: “as a Group committed to bridging local knowledge with global excellence, we are delighted to become a signatory of the PRI”.

Lionel Zinsou, Managing Partner commented: “Though founded only 3 years ago, SouthBridge operates in 15 African countries and has advised in transactions with a total value of circa EUR 2 billion. We look forward to working closely with PRI towards ensuring that sustainability runs through the grain of our investment approach.”

Nicole Martens, Head: Africa & Middle East, also commented on the announcement: “The PRI welcomes SouthBridge Holdings as a signatory and congratulates the organisation on taking this critical step in its responsible investment journey. We have every confidence that the organisation will continue to show a high level of dedication and commitment to the process of continuous growth and learning what is core to effective responsible investment and that it will strive to provide leadership in this regard across its various markets of operations.”
